Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Summary
Kansas Direct Feeder Cattle Summary
Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 01/06/2012
Receipts: 3299 Last Week: 3104 Year Ago: 1150
Compared with last week: Steers and heifers firm to 2.00 higher. Over the weekend, high winds hit the state hard with Goodland clocking winds with gusts up to 77 mph. Dodge City had 62 mph winds causing tremendous amounts of blowing dust, hard to believe with all the snow still on the ground. Daytime highs, with 66 on Thursday has melted most of the snow causing most feed yards to have major mud problems, but no one is complaining. We are very grateful for the moisture received in December. Sales confirmed on 2279 steers, 1020 heifers and no calves for a total of 3299 compared with 3104 last week and 1150 last year.
Volume includes 100 percent 600 lbs and over, with 33 percent contract cattle.
Feeder supply 69 percent steers and 31 percent heifers. Unless otherwise stated prices are FOB weighing points with 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent and a 5-10 cent slide on calves and a 3-6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights.
